Bath & North East Somerset is a unitary authority created at the last local government re-organisation with the famed World Heritage city of Bath at it’s hub.
Our offices are located in Paulton and Radstock towards the southern edge of the district within easy access of Bath and the major regional provincial centre of Bristol.
Whilst there is a good range of basic convenience shopping available locally (including some of the major supermarket chains) the two cities jointly provide a comprehensive range of shopping, cultural and other amenities. Bath is renowned for it’s “upmarket” niche retailers and Bristol has two major covered shopping centres at Broadmead (city centre) and Cribbs Causeway (out of town).
North East Somerset was once the centre of a prosperous coal mining industry but the last pit closed over 30 years ago and there are now few obvious signs of the area’s industrial heritage. The ‘Radstock and District Museum’ housed in the old market hall in the town does however feature a major exhibition about coal mining. In an area where once “coal was king” new industries have sprung up.
The outstanding natural beauty of the Mendips Hills and Chew Valley is within a short drive. Road and rail connections are good, both Bristol and Bath have inter-city railway stations and the motorway network (M4/M5) is easily accessible providing nationwide links. Bristol International Airport, which has seen major expansion in recent years is about 10 miles to the north west.
